A Bit of a Rant regarding Botox Sydney

September 24, 2009

BoTox has become ingrained amongst Sydney’s fashionable crowd in fact it is fast becoming an important part of grooming for people in Sydney. But I never cease to be astonished by the amount of half truths which surround this procedure. Below are some of the popular mistakes often encountered at Star Cosmetic Medicine in Pyrmont, Sydney.

Urban Legend Number 1: I will not have the ability to express emotions normally!

Research shows there are approximately 60 muscles under the skin of your face. They ordinarily work in harmony, but over a period of time fine lines can form. The overuse of BoTox may lead to the face appearing too relaxed. Broadly speaking doctors use relatively minute quantities to make you appear refreshed, nevertheless you will keep your facial expression.

So the correct amount of BoTox in the appropriate site means one can accomplish a softening of the fine lines and wrinkles without reducing facial expression.

Urban Legend Number 2: Botulinum is a poisonous substance!
This to some extent is correct. Its scientific term is Botulinum Toxin Type A. Too large a quantity can result in a decrease in muscle tone or can even make one really ill.

Chemists have an old phrase that states ‘everything is a poison - all depending on the dose’. Any medication may make someone ill in large enough doses. If you drink too much water you will die.

Urban Legend Number 3: BoTox will hurt!
Your hair is thicker than the needles we have at Star Cosmetic Medicine. Some people liken the injections to getting bitten by a bug. Certainly not as painful as having a regular shot.

Urban Legend Number 4: My face will not be as sensitive!
Completely false. BoTox works on the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, not sensate nerves. BoTox only impacts on the ability to relax muscles.

Urban Legend Number 5. You can’t stop getting BoTox or you will age faster than before!
Again this is simply wrong.

We strongly suggest you go to our splendid page for Sydney Botox costs instructions!

One set of injections is effective for about three months. Consequent treatments do last a little longer. Gradually as muscle strength returns, the lines will reappear bit by bit. However they will certainly be no worse than previously.

Even if you don’t have BoTox ever again - those lines will in all likelihood be a little better than if you had not undergone the treatment. This is obviously so because your facial muscles and skin have had a rest during the therapy.

farewell

December 24, 2008

I think of the last time “Happy New Year!!!” We shouted out loud Thinking of all the shouts That shouted it unanimously Undoubtedly dreaming of the new beginnings That were beginning at that time so passionately So many so massively unaware Of the year of pain to be shared By all those so ready, so naive and unprepared By all that lay ahead in the year 07 Through all of the hell Some may have gained heaven Some may have lost leverage With God due to sin And I find myself wondering which group I reside in How I managed to slide in To the new year while more worthy beings have been slain While more women and men’s bodies have been plagued By disease and by pain Broken hearts and slit vains At their own hands At the demands of a twisted unforgiving government Letters unwritten and flowers unsent And all of those who never made it past 07 1/1 And never got to witness who they may have become And now I sit alone at a small gray laptop Writing a poem dedicated to all those heart stops All those deep meaningful laughs and jaw drops To all the broken hearts, and those who can’t help but to break them Those who love love and all the cynics who hate em To all the tears cried, And the shoulders on which they fell To all those who felt the need to lie And all those who gained hundreds of stories to tell This is to all men and women on earth who rung in the new year Farewell to 07 because 08 is now here…

Rhinoplasty Facility Costs

June 29, 2008

No matter where the doctor and the anesthesiologist are going to perform a rhinoplasty surgery, there will be a cost for the facility. This cost includes and nurses or other staff necessary for the procedure, equipment and supplies to be used and the facility’s general overhead whether that is a rhinoplasty being performed in an office or one being done in a hospital. Obviously, if there is a reason that the work must be performed in a hospital, there is going to be a higher charge involved than merely the fee charged for a simpler office procedure. And finally, this fee will include any costs involved in the anticipated recovery after the surgery. If a small procedure has been performed and a local anesthetic was administered, a short time after completion, the patient may be up, walking around, feeling fine and ready to leave after a final examination by the surgeon. However, if the work was more complex, if an anesthetic was necessary to keep the patient asleep for several hours, if the pain quotient is expected to be higher due to the nature of the problem being addressed, it will be several hours after the surgery has been completed before the patient will be awake and several more hours before the patient is examined and allowed to leave.

All of these factors will affect the facility fee (as well as all other costs involved) and should be completely discussed beforehand. Applying the total monies spent on facility fees and dividing that by the number of surgeries performed, we arrive at an approximate average facility fee, nationally, of $700. If you are being charged substantially more or less than that you should ask why and the doctor’s answers should adequately explain the difference.

In some instances, the doctor may be offering a “package price” which would include his fee, the anesthesiologist’ fee and the facility fee as one number. If this makes you uncomfortable for any reason or if the total price for the work you are requesting does not feel proper, ask for a breakdown.

Remember, the numbers quoted here are from compiled figures published by American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) under the category rhinoplasty cost. There are two factors to take into account with these numbers:

1. The category “rhinoplasty cost” includes any surgery performed by a licensed surgeon operating on the nose. This can range from the removal of a simple bump, the repair of a simple skin tear or even hiding a small scar, up to a complete nasal reconstruction. As the complexity of the work increases, as the skill and artistry required of the surgeon increases, so does the cost.

2. Many rhinoplasty costs are hidden by doctors who have no problem billing their work to unsuspecting insurance companies as a repair of a “deviated septum” to “improve breathing difficulties” which would then be partially covered. This practice has become prevalent in the industry as the work can be performed and the client can save 60% or more of the total costs. Be aware if your doctor intends to bill your insurance company. If this is not something you wish to be involved in, make your desires known.

Lesson for Life - The Top 10 Lessons for Life of Navigating with Map and Compass

June 25, 2008

1. Have you selected the right map for your journey?

Is the level of detail appropriate and are you sufficiently experienced
to recognize that characteristic?

2. Understand the concepts of True North, Grid North, Magnetic North and
deviation and be able to apply them.

If you are going the wrong way, at least do so on purpose!

3. Understand the scale of your map and be able to estimate distance.

In the right condition of readiness it’s great to make a stretch but
make sure you recognize the mile too far.

4. Know your average speed over different terrains.

When you know your approximate arrival time it’s much easier to realize
when you have gone astray.

5. Ensure your map shows your starting point, your destination and the
intervening area.

Entering uncharted territory, know how to prepare a map adequate for
your purposes and fine tune it as your vision becomes clearer.

6. From your map be able to set a compass bearing allowing for magnetic
deviation.

The best tools are useless unless we know how to use them properly.

7. Know how to fix your position by taking bearings on recognizable fixed
points.

Once you have mastered this skill you need never be lost again. What
are the fixed points in your life?

8. Be prepared for what the map does not tell you…

…the season of year, the weather to be expected and in your current
project, what else?

9. From your map be able to recognize those hazards which it is advisable to
circumnavigate…

…and the conditions under which doing so becomes vital.

10. A line on a map depicting a footpath does not necessarily mean a track
which can be seen on the ground.

No signs may have been left by the last traveler. When you are familiar
with navigation and have a map that will pose no problem.

How Does Propecia (Finasteride) Help In The Treatment Of Hair Loss?

April 28, 2008

Finasteride was initially marketed to treat prostate conditions under the name Proscar in 5mg pills. It was known to inhibit the formation of DHT, a major contributor to both prostate cancer and male pattern hair loss.

Subsequent research showed that a 1mg daily dose of the same drug was sufficient to control hair loss for 83% of men after two years of treatment. Since 1998 this version has been marketed under the brand name Propecia and it remains the only prescription drug approved by the FDA specifically to treat hair loss. This approval extends only to men’s hair loss because of the dangers finasteride presents to unborn male fetuses. Women of child bearing age should therefore consult with their physician before considering the use of this drug.

The main purpose of Propecia is to halt hair loss and maintain what hair coverage is left. It is therefore popular with younger men who want to control hair loss at an early stage. Men of all ages use it in combination with minoxidil to achieve a hair loss strategy that both halts hair loss and encourages new growth.

Propecia works by interfering with the process of androgenetic hair loss which usually follows this process:

1. High levels of an enzyme known as 5-alpha-reductase occur in cells of the hair follicle.

2. This enzyme converts testosterone into DHT.

3. DHT causes miniaturization of robust terminal hairs.

4. This results in fine, soft vellus hairs that provide limited scalp coverage.

5. The growth phase gradually shortens until these hairs are lost permanently.

Propecia inhibits the formation of DHT and over a period of several months reduces levels of DHT sufficiently to minimize its effects on the hair follicle.

As with any drug, finasteride can cause side effects to a minority of users. The FDA trials reported a 2% incidence of varying side effects but these tended to lessen as the body adjusted to the drug over a period of months. Although Propecia or cheaper generic versions are easily obtained on the internet it is strongly recommended that you seek the advice of your doctor, at least in the first instance.
